Brumm Picnic 2011

It’s that time of year again – Horseshoes, baseball and fun galore, join us for the Brumm picnic and more! Ok, horseshoes is now ‘Cornhole‘ (or Baggo) and baseball has been volleyball for some time, but its always great to see the aunts and uncles, cousins and second cousins (and third cousins, etc.).

Here’s the important stuff:

  • Sunday, August 14, 2011
  • Noon til dusk
  • Park behind the Patty Turner Center (known as the ‘Brickyards’) in Deerfield, IL
  • Bring your own meat and beverage
  • Bring a dish to pass and bingo prizes

So we don’t have to compete with the Patty Turner Center patrons, use the parking lot off of Fountain View Drive (off Pfingsten and Kates Roads).

Directions are available here.

Rain or shine – be there (but let’s pray for ‘shine’, we’ve had enough rain).

Brumm Picnic 2010

I’m sure everyone is very busy this summer but if you haven’t heard, make sure you reserve Sunday August 15th for the Brumm Picnic. This year’s picnic will be in Deerfield at the Jaycee Park (located at 1050 Wilmot Road). Follow the link to see what is available at Jaycee Park. Thanks Jim (Beckman) for getting us the shelter. See you there!

Welcome!

Location for the Picnic

I suggest the lake and park at Morse. It’s beautiful, has lots to offer, easy to get to, and only a 3 hour drive from the Chicagoland suburbs! (It’s just North of Indy)

Natalie Turner as “Belle” in Beauty & the Beast

“Be Our Guest” for Something Magical! We invite you to step into the enchanted world of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Based on the Academy Award winning animated feature, the stage version includes all the wonderful songs from the film, plus new songs written especially for the Broadway version like” Home,” “Human Again” and “If I Can’t Love Her.” You will be transported to a lovely French provincial town where the beautiful Belle lives with her father. When he doesn’t return from a trip to a local fair, Belle rushes off to find him. She discovers he is being held captive in an old castle by a Beast. She trades her freedom, and the “tale as old as time” begins!

Heyy All!
Carly, Ashley, and Natalie are all in Beauty and the Beast, and we would LOVE it if you came. To those of you who have come to see other CYT shows in DuPage before, I just want to let you know that it is at a new, BEAUTIFUL theater (Including over 900 seats, a fly system, and amazing sound and lighting equipment!)

Carly and Ashley are Villagers, Natalie will play Belle.

So come and see it! Its going to be a phenomenal show.

Brumm Family Genealogy

Just in time for the Brumm Picnic, I have started a Brumm Family Genealogy Website. The good news is – this is all on the web. The idea is that everyone does their own families and fill out any information you have. The bad news is you will have to get another account for this website too.

Check out what I’ve got there so far. When you go to the website, click on surnames or search for me. You will find there are two of me (also doing a Zilligen Family Tree). Click on the ‘John Zilligen’ that says ‘Brumm’ to the right.

From there you will find my information – my parents, Desi and the kids. Click on the ‘Ancestors’ tab and you will see a tree going to the right to my mom and Grandpa Brumm. Click on the ‘Descendants’ tab and you will see a tree of my family. Notice the arrow to the left? click on it then click on my mom (Virginia) and now my brother and sisters are added to the tree. Same arrow to the left, click on it then click on Grandpa Brumm (John) and now all the brothers and sisters appear.

Sign up for an account and fill in your family – can correct and add what I have already started. As you can guess, this is going to get pretty big pretty quickly.  Let me know what questions you have.

Time to mark your calendar’s for the Brumm Picnic

An Old Poem to Uncle Larry

This is from my ‘little book of poems’ – I wrote this the summer of ’81 while Jack and Joyce took me to Carthage College to check it out for the first time. I was eighteen.

There’s a dusty old road
that Nature’s let toll
One can walk it, if not too old
Though the winter blows a bit cold
‘Til it ends at my Uncle’s Farm

The yard ain’t neat, or even clean
And littered with this and that, and other machines
One’s nose doesn’t need to be very acute
To tell its owner of the animals afoot
All living on my Uncle’s Farm

Sooner or later my uncle ‘ill make himself known
He might let you know in the arm with a stone
He a good aim and a good farmer, he’s tough
He ain’t old, Lord no! but he’s been around enough
The best farmer lives on my Uncle’s Farm
